New Church, Wellingborough

SWB was shortlisted to prepare a design for a new multi-purpose flexible church building that would function as a new parish centre providing for a range of needs for the local community.  The site is located on the edge of town on an area that was being used as a spoil heap for the surrounding developments.  The church was to provide the following:

• A modern church building as a focal point and a prominent landmark
• The place for marriages, baptisms and funerals
• A place giving opportunities for young people
• A base for community projects and community events as suggested above
• A place to come for those in need
• A lounge foyer
• An auditorium/worship area with seating for 250 people linked to a community hall
• Flexible auditorium for use as a multi-functional space
• Audio-visual equipment including sound amplification and hearing loop
• Large kitchen/servery for hot food and drinks with access to outdoors and alfresco café area
• A crèche for younger children
• Toilet facilities
• Community hall with hardwood floor suitable for sports and physical activities
• Four meeting/teaching rooms
• Considerable storage space for all the various groups
• Offices and vestry for clergy use
• Car parking
