Refurbishment of administration areas and reconstruction of the school entrance

Guthlaxton College is a mixed comprehensive with Arts College status with 1400 students from 14 to 19 years of age. This project was commissioned to redevelop the school’s main entrance with a modern dynamic architectural approach to create a ‘Gateway’ to set a tone for the development of its students and the future school development. The Gateway was designed to contrast with the bland 1950’s front entrance most of which was redundant.  The inclined vertical planes of rain screen cladding and tall windows create a focal point for all visitors to the college behind which is the main entrance, administration area, conference and exhibition facilities leading into the main assembly hall and performance area.
